5 Signs You Need a Roof Inspection
For homeowners, one of our worst nightmares is waking up to a gush of water from the attic, signaling to us that somewhere, somehow, there is a water leak.
Water damage can be expensive to repair and can be far reaching, as water seeps into sheetrock, insulation, and framing. Water leaks can also make your home more susceptible to termite infestation because of termites’ affinity for damp wood. Luckily, the pros at Ideal Partners are here to prepare your roof for the impending summer storms. Here are five signs you may need to give us a call.
1. Damaged Shingles
Look for shingles that are bent out of shape, sagging, or missing entirely. If you observe any shingle damage, it’s likely that there is other damage that you can’t see, and it could be a quick sign of a leak.
2. Stained Walls or Ceilings
Always be on the lookout for mold or discoloration on walls or ceilings, even in closets and bathrooms. These areas can be easily missed, but if there is a water leak coming down from the roof, over time it will discolor the sheetrock used for the walls and ceiling. If you see discoloration from water damage, it usually means that the leak has existed for some time, and a professional is needed right away to prevent any further damage and to repair the leak.
3. Peeling Paint Near Roofline
Paint typically doesn’t peel unless it is exposed to high humidity for extended periods of time. If your home’s paint is peeling near the roofline, it could indicate poor ventilation in your home’s attic. Contact a professional to diagnose your small problem before it becomes a large problem later.
4. Recent Gutter Issues
If your gutters have been clogged for a while, or they have been damaged, that could indicate a spot for water intrusion. If they are clogged, water can back up into your attic because it has nowhere else to go. If they have fallen off entirely, rainwater can sometimes travel up the bottom of the roof into the attic too. It’s like when you’re trying to slowly pour water out of a glass, and it runs down the side of the glass instead of flowing neatly out of the glass.
5. Damage After a Large Storm
If you’ve just endured a large storm and think your home may have been damaged, it’s better to be safe rather than sorry. Water damage is no joke, and the professionals at Ideal are always ready to help.
